One of the largest primary-contact health care professions in Ontario, chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on the neuromusculoskeletal system. Chiropractors use a combination of treatments, all of which are predicated on the specific needs of the individual patient. A chiropractor can develop and carry out a comprehensive treatment/management plan, recommend therapeutic exercise and other non-invasive therapies, and provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling. Chiropractors provide conservative management of neuromusculoskeletal disorders including, but not limited to, back, neck and, head pain.

Common Health Concerns
Conditions commonly treated by chiropractors include:
- Back and neck pain, including whiplash, and pregnancy-related back pain
- Strains and sprains
- Plantar fasciitis
- Carpal tunnel
- Tennis/Golfer’s elbow
Chiropractic care is also effective in treating limited range of motion in the spine or limbs, and can assist in recovering from injuries to the upper and lower extremities, and repetitive strain injury. Regular treatment has also been attributed to improved general health and an increased feeling of well-being.
Prenatal Chiropractic Care
As your body changes during pregnancy, you can experience uncomfortable backache and neck pain. Also, while your body prepares for labour, it secretes hormones that loosen ligaments, which can exaggerate spinal and pelvic discomfort.
Benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy:
- Increase comfort during 3rd trimester and childbirth
- Reduce duration of labour and the need for pain medications
- Reduce back pain during pregnancy and the likelihood of back labour
- Help nursing parents become more comfortable during breastfeeding
- Reduce the likelihood of postpartum depression
A hands-on approach to healing your body, chiropractic adjustments are safe and effectively treat your joints, muscles and nervous system. Adjustments can provide pain relief, increased mobility, and support optimum health and total body function. Chiropractic adjustments are safe and effective for a variety of conditions and address the cause of your body’s dysfunction, not simply the symptoms.
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic adjustment for the pregnant mother. This technique is classically used during the 7th through 9th month of pregnancy. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances maternal pelvic muscles and ligaments, which in turn, reduces torsion in the uterus, a cause of intra-uterine constraint of the baby and allows for optimal fetal positioning in preparation for birth. This technique reduces tension in the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis. It uses a combination of gentle adjusting to balance the SI joints and gentle ligamentous trigger point work to allow for more room for the baby to move and better position itself.
Myofascial Release Technique: A soft tissue technique that involves applying sustained pressure to the connective tissue during motion to eliminate pain and physical restrictions and restore normal motion allowing you to resume a pain free lifestyle.
Activator: Activator adjusting is an alternative method to classic chiropractic adjusting. It is a gentle, low-force treatment that is used on individual joints to restore motion and reduce pain.
Acupuncture: Acupuncture is helpful when used to treat a variety of conditions such as back pain, neck pain, headaches, knee pain, tendonitis, arthritis, as well as other muscle and joint problems.
Dr. Holly Beckley, BKin(Hons), DC
I always knew I wanted to be in health care, helping people, and when I discovered Chiropractic and how it could be used to help the body heal from injury, function at a higher level and prevent future ailments with a non-invasive, drug-free and hands-on approach, I knew I had found the right profession for me. I first completed my Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree at McMaster University in 2002 and then attended the Candian Memorial Chiropractic College where I graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic in 2006. Believing in the importance of ongoing education and wanting to be able to offer my patients the best care possible, I obtained my Certificate in Clinical Acupuncture from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2010 and have been trained in Active Release Technique. I enjoy learning new ways of helping my patients and regularly participate in continuing education programs. I truly enjoy working with patients of all ages to achieve their health care goals. Whether it be to resolve an injury, to improve movement or flexibility or simply feel one's best, Chiropractic may be able to help you and I would welcome the opportunity to work with you.
